The Truth About Domain Names

Here's the truth about website domains. You know, the bit that has your business name in it. Mine is monrosedesign.com

1. It belongs to YOU not your web developer.
2. Domains costs around $20-30 per year. NOT the $300+ that your developer may be charging you.
3. Securing a domain is as easy as opening a facebook account - you can do it yourself.

If you have ever engaged a web developer to build you a website, call them TODAY and insist that they transfer your domain over to your own account.
WHY?
Because in my experience, if you engage someone else to take over or rebuild your website, your previous developer may try to hold your domain to ransom. Some will even shut your domain down, or worse hang onto it so that you can no longer use your own domain (remember it only costs them around $20 per year, so no biggie for them). And if your email addresses matches that domain, well they’re gone too.

If I build you a website and start with a new domain, I will create the domain account in your name and with your email address. You are able to go in to that account and change your passwords at any time and allow access to your domain name to the next web developer you engage.

Digital companies that refuse you access to your domain name are quite frankly doing the wrong thing.
